Pilot at York Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust reduces sickness absence by 42%
The new Centre for Occupational Health and Wellbeing at York Hospitals, an NHS Plus innovation site, recently developed a pilot project to improve attendance and staff wellbeing while also supporting staff on sick leave.
York Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust invested £100,000 in a multidisciplinary team to develop a range of physical and psychological rehabilitation packages designed to help staff get back to work.
The project reduced number of long-term sick by 42% and those out for more than 3 months by 46% while improving and enhancing services to NHS staff and the broader business community. Working with HR, line managers and staff the project saved an estimated £200K in sick pay costs.
Kerry Sweet Ingredients
Kerry Sweet Ingredients (KSI) is a food manufacturer employing 140 staff at two factory sites just outside Pocklington, 15 miles east of York. Due to the existing provider’s inability to continue to service KSI and recognising the importance of looking after the health, welfare and safety of their staff, they approached NHS Plus at York’s Centre for Occupational Health and Wellbeing service for advice and support.
